Summer Plan supports regional business

REGIONAL businesses affected by the algal bloom outbreak are being boosted by the Dining Cashback and Travel Voucher programs as part of the State Government’s Summer Plan.

The Dining Cashback is a statewide program offering South Australian residents a chance to receive up to 50 per cent cashback (capped at $50)* when they dine at participating coastal hospitality businesses – including restaurants, cafes, pubs, clubs, fish-and-chip shops, takeaway venues and the like – or purchase seafood from participating SA seafood retailers.

Port Lincoln Hotel sales and marketing manager Karena Cowley said the program was encouraging residents and intrastate tourists to dine at local businesses.

“We have definitely seen a huge increase in visitation to the region which is fantastic and also locals are getting out and about too,” she said.

Entry is via a public ballot. Winners receive a unique code and must upload a copy of their tax invoice from the participating business, along with that code, to claim the cashback.

In addition to the Dining Cashback program, Summer Plan initiatives include the Coast is Calling Travel Voucher program for South Australian residents aged over 18 – for accommodation and experiences – designed to stimulate tourism and support coastal regions.

Ms Cowley said Port Lincoln Hotel has welcomed visitors from across the state, as well as interstate and overseas, as the summer holiday period ramps up.

“It’s great to see. It’s great for the region,” she said.

“We love encouraging our visitors to stay a few days and explore, do a tour, go shark cage diving, go to Coffin Bay and eat some oysters, go to the local cafes and restaurants and support the whole region.”

The latest draw of the Coast is Calling Travel Voucher ballot took place on Thursday, December 4 and voucher winners are reminded to book by 4pm ACDT on Monday, 19 January.

A redraw will then be held on 22 January 2026 reallocating unclaimed vouchers to entrants unsuccessful in the first draw, helping to further drive redemption.
