As Eyre Peninsula farmers continue to battle the impacts of the ongoing drought, the state government has delivered 80 tonnes of fodder to 11 primary producers near Petina on the West Coast.
The delivery of fodder provided is part of the $73 million Drought Support Package, with this latest initiative supported by Rural Aid to assist with the cost of transporting the fodder across South Australia.
Primary Industries Minister Clare Scriven said the state government knew this support was important as the drought was affecting farmers throughout the state.
“It’s helping to support farmers to maintain their core breeding stock and keep their operations going during these incredibly challenging times,” she said.
“We’re incredibly grateful for the work of these organisations, who have stepped up to support our farmers, no matter where they are located across our vast state.
“We’ve listened to feedback from farmers and made changes to the scheme’s guidelines to ensure the support is fair and more effective. This is about delivering the right help in the right places.”
Rural Aid chief operations officer Brian Morton said the organisation continued to provide fodder assistance to drought-impacted farmers in SA.
“Rural Aid’s latest hay drop into the Streaky Bay area is a continuation of the hay drops being run since July 2024 into the state to support farmers,” he said.
“Rural Aid also continue to provide assistance with counselling, domestic water, water tanks, financial assistance and education funding.”
Mr Morton said primary producers could register with Rural Aid at ruralaid.org.au
Round two of the scheme is being delivered in partnership with organisations such as Rural Aid, Rapid Relief Team, SA Dairyfarmers’ Association, Need for Feed, and Farmers Relief Agency.
Charitable organisations can apply to take part in the scheme.
