Cowell prepares for Christmas

It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Cowell – with the town’s living Christmas tree in the Main Street decorated with giant red baubles.

Cowell Lions’ members revamped the decorations and also several wooden Christmas trees which have been placed prominently within the town – encouraging people to have a merry Christmas.

Members are regularly selling tickets in their giant Christmas raffle in front of Cowell Foodland, along with Lions Christmas puddings and cakes, each Thursday and Saturday, in the lead up to Christmas.

This weekend is the town’s annual carols in the Franklin Harbour Institute – being hosted by Cowell Uniting Church at 2pm.

Lion Kim Baum said people intending to take part in the Cowell Christmas pageant on Sunday, December 24 would need to assemble between 4pm and 5pm – to ensure the parade could make its way through the streets starting at 6pm.

The main attraction of the pageant will be Father Christmas – who, weather permitting, will meet children next to the living Christmas tree on Main Street – to distribute small gifts.

Judging of the Cowell Lions Christmas Lights competition for Cowell residential houses business premises will take place on the evening of Sunday, December 17.

There will be limited places on the bus for people who do not have the mobility to get around to view the lights, to join them – but only by giving advance notice to ensure there is space.
