Magpies triumphant in Far West grand final

Thevenard Football Club Magpies got the better of Thevenard Football Club Redbacks in the division one final of the Far West 8-Ball Association grand final last month.

Thevenard Sports Club hosted the division one and two deciders on Saturday, March 23, with the main event a close affair.

In that division one decider, it was the Magpies – led by captain Malcolm Stott and also including Brett Kavanagh, Charlie Meier, Jamie Hartwig, Chris Cooper and Andrew Cooper – who got the better of the Redbacks 8-5.

Thevenard Hotel Barflies – with captain Josh Cummings, Michael Knowles, Troy Chandler, Andrew Xanthopoulos, Jeff Riddle, Mal Fricker and Lachlan Kerr – proved too good in the division two grand final, winning 8-2 against Complex Cannons.

Individual trophy winners were presented after the matches, with Stott named the player of the year and Kavanagh the runner-up.

Meier was the singles competition winner ahead of Knowles, while Andrew Parkyn was named most improved player.

New Far West 8-Ball life members were also named – Nic Parsons, Kavanagh, Andrew Cooper and Janean Cooper.
