A new format combining an afternoon market with the town’s carols event proved popular in Cowell on Sunday.
Cowell Interchurch Council organises the carols on a rotation basis, with the Catholic Church’s Jan Burton leading this year’s service.
Jan said she believed the format of combining with a Cowell Lions’ market would continue going forward.
Hundreds of people sat on chairs or milled about the markets on Sunday.
Jan said proceeds from a collection at the carols will go to funding Jess Jaeschke’s support role role at Cowell Area School.
Jess said in addition to the weekly breakfast club organised at the school, a garden club had been formed there this year.
She said students planted, harvested and ate what the garden produced during lunch times.
Jan said in addition to that, Jess also coordinated a hamper program to help those in need at this time of the year in the district.
