Families’ final gifts help modernise Tumby Bay Hospital facilities

Two generous bereavement donations from passed community members has allowed Tumby Bay Hospital & Uringa Auxiliary to fund the first stage of a project to build new patients’ bathrooms to existing rooms at Tumby Bay Hospital.

Auxiliary members were very pleased and quite proud to be asked to view room one, of stage one, of the Tumby Bay Hospital Bathrooms Upgrade Project on Friday 17 October.

The upgrades include newly painted rooms containing two beds, new ceilings, new flooring, plus a large, bright, open and airy bathroom with all modern amenities and fixtures.

A final matter that was not overlooked – patients still have a sea/bay view with the provision of a generous-sized window, alongside each new bathroom.

This very long awaited project was started in May, after a number of years of interruptions and setbacks – including Covid – during the planning stages.

All nursing staff plus all auxiliary members were pleased to see the plan finally come to fruition.

Gone will be the original, very narrow, antiquated and hazardous bathrooms that were unsafe for patients and staff to use.

These upgrades will improve patient care and safety for all involved.

Stage two ‘final’ of this project is starting in the coming weeks and will see the whole process repeated and again funded from auxiliary’s accounts.

In future the auxiliary hopes to see the upgrade of the rest of the patients’ bathrooms in the hospital completed.

The group is grateful for the generosity of individuals and families in the community who decide to donate, share and bequeath for the benefit of others using Tumby Bay Hospital or Uringa Hostel – as a final act of kindness – at this time in their lives.

The auxiliary welcomes anyone who wishes to join with its members in raising funds for such a worthy cause.

Tumby Bay Hospital & Uringa Auxiliary meets on the first Wednesday of each month, excluding January.
