Ceduna trip marks Probus Birthday Month

Streaky Bay Combined Probus Club joined clubs across Australia in celebrating Probus Birthday Month, marking 49 years since the organisation’s founding.

This year, members chose to celebrate with a day trip to Ceduna.

A bus full of enthusiastic members departed Streaky Bay ready for a fun-filled day of fellowship and adventure.

The tone was set early with an amusing onboard activity, as each traveller was assigned a zoo animal and joined in a spirited round of Old McDonald’s Farm, complete with sound effects.

The first stop was a coffee and comfort break at beautiful Smoky Bay, before continuing on to the Boylan Oysters, where Wayne provided an informative and entertaining talk about the local oyster industry.

Many members were delighted to sample freshly shucked oysters right on the spot – thanks go to James Boylan and Wayne Bubner for their warm hospitality.

Next on the itinerary was a visit to Ceduna’s new Cultural and Art Centre, an impressive new building featuring stunning local artworks.

Members also discovered Mint Bush Gallery, the centre’s inviting new coffee shop, which is sure to be on everyone’s list for a return visit.

Lunch was enjoyed at Ceduna Foreshore Hotel, where host Sharon and her team made the occasion extra special by decorating the tables in Probus colours of blue and yellow.

The meal was delicious, and it was a cheerful atmosphere.

The final stop was Pauline Nielsen’s House of Purple in Thevenard, a truly unique garden that showcases Pauline’s passion for roses, photography, and travel.

Members were treated to a tour of her beautiful grounds, fascinating stories from her travels, and a delightful afternoon tea before heading home.

The group returned to Streaky Bay in time for some members to make it to Elmhaven for tea, concluding a wonderful day of friendship, discovery and celebration.

Streaky Bay Combined Probus Club extends warm thanks to everyone who contributed to a memorable Probus Birthday Month, especially driver Wayne, and looks forward to celebrating the club’s 50th milestone next year.
