Dear editor,
Hand in hand, during the 2022 state election campaign, the Malinauskas Labor Party, the SA Nurses Federation and the South Australian Ambulance Employees Association all made vigorous claims that ambulance ramping would be a priority for a new government and almost guaranteed that it would be addressed.
Media statements, reports and emotional advertisements, highlighting its impact, strongly implied that it was due to the Liberal Government’s policies, which were released and aired incessantly.
Ambulance ramping in SA in July 2025 was the worst on record at 5866 hours.
To read ‘Mali sidesteps ramping’ (Sunday Mail, 26 October) by not referring to it in a recent speech, and to find that it is not even mentioned in the Labor Party’s platform for next March’s state election, is extremely disappointing and signals the raising of the white flag.
Putting ramping in the too-hard basket rather than working out real solutions reflects a total lack of concern and empathy for the health and safety of patients, and signifies that this government does not deserve to be re-elected.
Seeing our ‘Good Time Premier’ on the front page, highlighting that ambulance ramping had been fixed, would have been far more preferable than regularly seeing headlines about LIV Golf, Gather Round, Festival of Arts, roadworks, de-privatising public transport, etc.
Giving up and ignoring a problem is a total failure and lacks any credibility.
Ian Macgowan, Ceduna
