End of an era for women’s group

A decision has been made to close the South Australian Country Women’s Association (SACWA) Far Western Group.

The last Far Western Group annual meeting was held in Streaky Bay on Thursday, August 14, with Tamara Hall representing the head office.

The group started back in 1943 with the Ceduna, Cungena, Minnipa, Wirrulla and Streaky Bay branches.

Then came the Poochera, Port Kenny, Haslam and Coorabook branches, for a total of nine in the group.

At last month’s final AGM there were only two branches remaining – Ceduna and Streaky Bay.

Both branches tried to keep the group going over the past years, but as the table days ceased, memberships declined and members getting older, it was unanimously decided to close the group.

Both the Ceduna and Streaky Bay branches of the SACWA will still be going strong and members from both said they would still keep in contact with each other, for there have been great friendships made over the years.

A great lunch and meeting was had by all.

The group thanks Tamara for coming across to Streaky Bay for the meeting.
