Get your needles ready to race – the Rudall branch of the South Australian Country Women’s Association (SACWA) will hold a public knit-off.

Rudall handicraft officer Mary Edwards is organising the competition, which will be held at Maeve’s Newsagency in Cleve on Friday, August 15 at 10am.

She said anyone was welcome to enter but beware it will not be just about speed – the finished knitted squares would need to be deemed neat and even, by the three judges.

“It will be the first finished, as long as it is neat and tidy,” she said.

There is a $100 first prize, with the second and third-placed knitters to receive vouchers from Bendigo Woolen Mills.

Eight play yarn and 4mm needles will be supplied to competitors, who will need to pay $3 to enter.

Spectators are also encouraged to head along on the morning, with tea and coffee to be available, as well as morning tea.

Mary said last week that there were already nine knitters entered from Wudinna and Lock SACWA branches.

Rudall SACWA branch meets on the second Tuesday of each month in the Cleve Uniting Church hall at 10am.

Anyone is welcome to head along to both the branch meetings and the knitting competition.
