Tumby Lions change hands

Lions Club of Tumby Bay and District celebrated a significant milestone in its annual calendar with the Executive Changeover Dinner, recently held at the Seabreeze Hotel.

The event drew 50 members and guests, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and community spirit as the club marked the transition of its leadership.

Welcoming the incoming president and executive during the evening, outgoing executives were formally acknowledged for their dedication and service over the past year.

The highlight of the night was the induction of the new executive team, with David Pearson stepping into the role of president.

Mr Pearson addressed the gathering with optimism and resolve, as he stated: “Tumby Bay and the district has benefited from the efforts of the club since inception and in the coming year the club is looking to rejuvenate these efforts, develop depth to membership, enticing a younger age group of members to take on the responsibility for that community effort that charter members set as the standard.

“We currently have around 40 members and would like to ensure that the club continues to maintain a good cross section of the community as members.”

The Lions of the Year recognition trophy – the Neil Kopman Award – was presented by Theresia Kopman to Terry Horne.

The award was presented for the outstanding work he continues to undertake in collecting recycled can collection, raising more than $1100 in deposit returns.

The evening served not only as a celebration of past achievements, but as a rallying call for renewed purpose.

During the 2024-25 year Tumby Bay Lions contributed more than 1600 hours to community service.

The club remains committed to fostering community involvement and service, with a clear focus on maintaining a vibrant and diverse membership.

New members are always welcome.

The leadership transition signals the club’s ongoing dedication to the high standards set by the charter members 45 years ago in 1979, while also seeking to attract younger participants eager to serve their community.

Members and interested community members are invited to attend the next meeting of the Lions Club of Tumby Bay and District, scheduled for Monday, August 25.

The club looks forward to another year of impactful service and community engagement.
