Young footballers play on Adelaide Oval

Tumby Bay’s youngest footballers had the rare opportunity to play football on Adelaide Oval on Sunday as part of the Auskick program.

At half-time of Port Adelaide’s AFL game against Melbourne, the tiny girls and boys played for about 15 minutes.

The trip was organised by Tumby Bay Football Club’s Auskick coach Danny Collins and assistant coach Alisha Collins.

Danny said despite the cold and wet weather the Tumby players were all smiles as they kicked goals and enjoyed playing on the same ground as the AFL stars.

“Tumby Bay Football Club’s Auskick Program thanks the SANFL for allowing us the opportunity during Regional Round,” he said.

“[It was] such a unique opportunity not offered enough to kids on the EP.”

Danny said the children had plenty of nerves but all had big smiles when they ran out on to the ground.

The weather cleared by half-time to make the conditions “absolutely perfect”.

“With the majority of them being Port supporters they left even happier with the win,” he said. “I’m extremely proud of all the kids – everyone had a great go.

“A huge effort from all the parents to get their kids over to Adelaide on such short notice for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
