Ceduna Seniors invited Clinton Zippel from the Ceduna Quarantine Station to speak at its last meeting on Friday, May 30.

Clinton gave the group some history and facts about the station, which started in Port Augusta in 1957 after an outbreak of fruit fly there.

It moved to Ceduna the next year where it was easier to intercept traffic.

Clinton said these days inspectors check up to 150,000 vehicles every year.

He kept the meeting entertained with amusing anecdotes of happenings at the roadblock over the years.

The meeting closed with afternoon tea.

The next meeting will be held on Friday, June 27, with a venue to be advised.

Ceduna Seniors will also be catering for the 100th anniversary of Ceduna District Council on Friday, June 20.

Some food has been promised by members but if anyone else would like to bring a plate it would be very much appreciated.
