Volunteers of Joanna’s Op Shop and The Mission to Seafarers were thanked by the Ceduna Anglican congregation at a lunch held in St. Michael’s Hall on Friday, May 30.
Host Reverend David Thompson, the parish priest and chaplain to Port Thevenard, invited the volunteers to the lunch as part of National Volunteers Week, and the Anglican Church Hope25 program.
“We recognise that our mission in the community rests upon many, many hours of work by our volunteers, in Joanna’s Op Shop itself, or behind the scenes,” he said.
“Through Mission to Seafarers, we provide a bus service for ship crews from the port into Ceduna, where they reprovision food supplies, find bargains at the Op Shop, or relax in our modest centre, located behind Joanna’s.”
The barbecue lunch was well appreciated by the guests, cooked by Rev David, with side dishes made available from volunteers themselves.
Hope25 is a national Anglican program, concluding on Pentecost Sunday (June 8), in which Anglican congregations across Australia are encouraged to share their hope through faith to their local communities.
The lunch was an opportunity for the Ceduna parish to thank the volunteers who provide practical hope in many ways to the local community and beyond, to visiting tourists, and to seafarers who risk their lives at sea to ensure export products from Ceduna are delivered to other destinations.
