Busy time for Streaky Bay Probus Club

Streaky Bay Probus Club has had an active few months, filled with laughter, learning and great company.

One of its recent highlights was a day trip to Colton Bakery.

Twenty members boarded the bus and were treated to a fascinating insight into the history and operation of the traditional wood-fired bakery, thanks to generous hosts Corina and Mark Reynolds.

After the tour, members enjoyed a delicious morning tea of fresh sticky buns and coffee.

The bus ride home was filled with the wonderful aroma of freshly baked bread.

Next stop was Port Kenny Hotel for a hearty lunch.

Staff provided a specially-designed menu for the group and manager Janine introduced everybody to her multicultural team, who are travelling Australia.

After lunch, Probus members took a scenic tour of Venus Bay to check out some of the exciting new developments, and the return to Streaky Bay was made even more fun with some music and sing-alongs on the bus.

The monthly coffee Happy Chat mornings continue to be much-loved.

The latest was held at the newly-opened gin bar The Knife Shop and featured the theme ‘Something close to your heart’.

Members brought along an eclectic and touching array of items – from a scrapbook of Anzac memorabilia and a handmade book nook, to a vintage plate from the original Flinders Hotel and an old click-it TV filled with miniature slides of Kangaroo Island.

Each item sparked stories, memories and conversation.

The club was thrilled to recently welcome six new members.

While the club is excited to see the community growing, at the same time it said a fond farewell to longtime member Margaret Mudge, who is moving away and will be dearly missed.

Whether you are recently retired, semi-retired, or simply looking for a connection and good company, Streaky Bay Probus Club would welcome you to join.

The club meets at Streaky Bay Hotel on the third Thursday of each month, plus the Happy Chat coffee catch-up the following Thursday at a local cafe.

Visitors are always welcome, so come along and see what the club is about.
