Healthy workplace strategies explored

Ceduna School Community Library hosted Be Well Work Well Co and offered two workshops for the community.

The first was ‘The Free Masterclass: Wellbeing Habits for Small Business Staff’, followed by ‘Psychosocial Hazards and Workplace Wellbeing’.

In the first session attendees could learn simple, effective strategies to help them and their team manage daily stress and build a supportive, healthy workplace culture.

The session offered the chance to gain new perspectives on mental health and walk away with a range of brief, practical and engaging wellbeing activities tailored to their business needs that could easily be incorporated into daily routine.

The second session noted that as a small business owner, you have a responsibility to eliminate or minimise psychosocial risks to safeguard your staff’s wellbeing and mental health.

It explored what this meant and how it worked.

It gave attendees an idea to develop an understanding of the recently introduced psychosocial risk regulations and how to use your company’s values to take positive action tailored to your organisation’s specific needs.

Eyre ICT Solutions owner Adam Schwarz attended and found it beneficial.

“It was very informative and good to see that there are organisations taking mental health and wellbeing seriously,” he said.

“Small businesses can quickly get overwhelmed with current business and owners can neglect either themselves or employees by accident, so having free resources and training on these matters is encouraging.”

The sessions were offered at no cost thanks to the SA Office for Small & Family Business.

Coming soon to the library is a Be Well Foundations session for small business.

This is a six-hour deep dive, providing scientific insights into ways to improve mental health and wellbeing, and build resilience to better navigate tough times and stress in general.

You will explore a variety of mental health topics, including stress management, countering thinking traps, exploring meaning and purpose, delving into strengths, values and mindfulness.

Attendees will develop a plan to build ongoing wellbeing habits and embed activities into your work and personal routine.

They will also be provided with opportunities to practice activities during the program individually and as a group.

For those interested, you will also be invited to undertake a free wellbeing measurement using the Be Well Tracker, which provides confidential insights into individuals’ mental health in six key domains: wellbeing, resilience, anxiety, stress, mood and health.
