Children enjoyed the chance to bring books to life with puppets when children’s author Katrina Germein visited Lock School and Community Library on Thursday, March 27.
Librarian Jane Taylor said the author had props which she lent to children to use as she read them stories.
Puppets proved popular, with one of a dog used when a dog was digging in a story.
It was the first Rhythm and Rhyme Time session for the year, which is for children from birth until preschool, and their parents.
“We also had kids from reception and year one, two and three classes,” she said.
Because there were quite a few students away for other activities, any students from older age groups that were at school that day also attended.
Ms Taylor said the visit was part of a Words Grow Minds program and the author also visited other schools during the trip, with others scheduled to be visited in a future trip.
She said the children enjoyed the excitement of meeting the author.
One of the preschoolers attending the Lock session, Liam Northcott, was awarded a certificate of achievement and a new book to keep for reading 1001 books before school.
To get involved parents pick up a booklet from the library, which the children use to mark off each book they read.
