Kimba people are being sought to help at the 50th anniversary of Yeltana Show Jumping Championships on the weekend of April 5 and 6.
Eyre Peninsula Showjumping Club hosts the event at the Kimba Pony Club grounds and both are also seeking people to help get things ready in the lead-up to the event.
Helpers are needed at a barbecue fundraiser which will be held at Kimba Home Hardware this Saturday, March 22 from 9am, selling tickets for the Calcutta, and at a working bee at the Pony Club grounds from 10am.
Anyone is welcome to give a hand on Saturday, in the lead-up to the championships and on the day.
Yeltana organiser Katie Eatts said in addition to hosting the showjumping championships, unofficial showjumping and dressage events were also held on the same weekend, at the Kimba oval.
She said people did not need any special skills to give a hand, as it will be just a general tidy up of jumps and the grounds – including painting and sweeping.
Entries for Yeltana close on Monday, March 31, but Katie said good numbers had already been received.
About 40 riders, most with a couple of horses, are expected from Eyre Peninsula, and predominantly from the Adelaide region, as well as a few others from elsewhere in the state.
Katie expected entries to be higher this year than in 2024 when it was only one week away from the Mount Gambier Easter Horse Show.
Anyone with photos from previous Yeltana events, particularly from the early days, are also asked to contact Katie on 0428 340 255.
They will be displayed in the Kimba Districts Football and Netball Clubrooms, which will host a 1970s-themed dinner on Saturday, April 5, with catering by Kimba AH & F Show Society.
There will be bar facilities at the dinner with music by local DJ Tanya Blair.
People need to RSVP for the dinner for catering purposes.
Kimba will also host the Eyre Peninsula Pony Club zone school from April 13 to 17.
