Free children’s activities were offered at the Cowell Lions’ Christmas Market by the Cowell Wellbeing Group.
Group president Erin King said there were a number of ongoing programs being run in Cowell, thanks to it picking up new members at its annual general meeting on November 24.
The group took charge of the town’s junior basketball competition in 2023 and there are now 56 children playing this season.
Games are played at the foreshore court from 3.45pm until 6.45pm each Monday night, with four matches played weekly.
“It’s the second year the Wellbeing Group has done it,” Erin said.
“We run it down at the foreshore – that is what we can only do one game at the time.”
For the fourth year the group has put together a calendar with all photos in it taken within the Franklin Harbour District Council area.
The 2025 calendars are available from Cowell Post Office for $5 each, until they are sold out.
Erin said the Cowell Community Garden was also running well, thanks to Vicki Bourliousas and a group of five or six regular volunteers, who regularly checked the garden.
Garden working bees are held on the third Sunday of each month, with the next one this Sunday, December 15 at 10am.
Garden produce goes on the Cowell Swap Shelf on the corner of Main and High streets, where anyone is welcome to drop their own excess garden produce, or to take what they need for personal use.
