Group gets OTC insight

Thirty-one members of Ceduna Seniors on the Move had an informative trip to the Ceduna Radio Astronomy Observatory.

The group’s August meeting at the OTC station, about 35 kilometres from Ceduna, saw manager Bev Bedson explain the workings of the site – which is now owned by the University of Tasmania.

Bev is the site caretaker and manager, doing all the jobs necessary to keep the dish operational.

She also compiles reports and keeps all the records.

Sometimes she will have to repair small – and big – things that go wrong, which can be a huge responsibility.

The group had a sausage lunch prepared and cooked by Dicky Collins and Tex Thomas and Served by Karen Collins and Lyn Thomas.

Delicious cakes were provided by Priscilla Gum, Shirley Mahar and Desrae Beattie for afternoon tea.

Following the presentation members were happy to sit around and chat before we all headed home – special thanks to Darren Collins for donating all the food needed for lunch.

The club continues to grow, with 61 members so far this year, while it is also financially secure.

The next meeting will be on Friday, September 27 at the RSL Hall at 2pm, with Andrew Wilkins and Dom Denton the guest speakers, talking about port operations at Thevenard.
