Health night attracts a crowd

They say there is no such thing as a free lunch, but a free tea was provided to those attending a recent Lock health night.

Lock Health Advisory Committee president Michael Zacher said thanks to sponsorship the group was able to provide a complimentary three-course meal to those attending at Lock Football Club.

This year’s was a mixed event, for men and women, with about 65 people turning out.

Michael said the guest speakers were shark attack survivor Chris Blowes and cancer survivor Brooke Neindorf.

“He (Chris) is a down to earth speaker and spoke with a language that anyone can listen to,” Michael said.

Chris spoke about resilience and courage and how he had learned to surf again despite losing a leg in the shark attack.

Instead of working as a hands-on builder these days Chris was employed by Master Builders Association, speaking to young teens about going into a career in building.

“He is regularly going to schools and speaking with kids about how much they can achieve in the building industry,” Michael said.

Brooke Neindorf spoke about her career as an ABC reporter.

Michael said she was also a popular speaker, being reasonably well known on Eyre Peninsula for her entertaining speaking style.
