Cowell woman Isobel Salter gained valuable skills while completing the Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award.
Isobel said she completed the award while undertaking year 11 and 12 at Cowell Area School in 2022 and 2023.
“It helped to improve my confidence and to help me with time management, because I was doing it as well as school and work at the Commercial pub,” she said.
Isobel was formally presented with her award at the school recently.
Cowell teacher Colleen Peters said the Duke of Edinburgh Award was created by the late duke to acknowledge young people who learnt new skills, gave service to their community, were physically active and took on challenges.
“Isobel began the award during the early Covid years which made it difficult to complete some sections but she persevered and can be proud of her efforts,” Colleen said.
Isobel said Colleen helped her to decide what to do to meet the award requirements.
She walked regularly to complete the physical section; helped out with the school breakfast club in the service section; learnt to make jewellery in the skills section; and completed an Operation Flinders Exercise for the adventurous journey.
