His main contribution has been to the agricultural museum next to Lincoln Highway in Cowell.

Agriculture museum volunteer Rodger Story said in addition to the hours John had spent as a volunteer, he had also restored a 1928 Chevrolet car and donated it to the museum.

Rodger said John had worked for Franklin Harbour District Council for most of his working life.

“When he retired he spent countless hours at the museum in building works, restoration of machinery, supervising other volunteers, etcetera,” Rodger said.

Franklin Harbour History Museum president Christine Franklin presented John with the award.

The museum’s postmaster’s cottage curator Bev Hoarder said people could visit that building on Main Street, Cowell, on any weekday between 10am and 3pm.

However, due to a shortage of volunteers people needed to contact Rodger to arrange to view the agricultural museum – call 0428 377 133.
