The Under the Pines committee managed to weather the storm and successfully host another twilight market on Saturday, under the picturesque Port Neill pines.

Committee chairperson Leticia Masters said the event, which boasts local food, drink and market stalls, would not have gone ahead in 2024 without the generous help from Smith Haulage, Tumby Bay.

In addition, Cameron Smith supplied a truck at the last minute for musicians Brook Newton, Josh Morphett and the Chris Kenny Band to safely perform on, while Ry Fuller and Chris from SoundRyte quickly changed their entire PA schedule to accommodate late changes due to weather conditions.

Ms Masters said the committee had “so many people and businesses to thank”, including sponsors who all rallied despite the weather to ensure the yearlong volunteer efforts were not wasted.

“Some special mentions must go to Port Neill Electrical, Marcia Octoman and Pete Cassidy (Tumby Bay District Council), Tash Rosenzweig and helpers, Chris Tarran, Port Neill Country Fire Service and South Australian Ambulance Service, our local community members who provided and erected countless shades in the rain and our fabulous stallholders and food vendors who stuck with us.”

She said while it was a “small, but mighty volunteer committee”, it was dedicated – along with support of the Port Neill Progress Association – to providing locals and tourists a chance to “enjoy our slice of heaven”.

“We are passionate about our community and believe that our free event is the perfect summer occasion to unwind and connect,” Ms Masters said.

“Thank you to everyone who attended, our crowd was huge and we can’t wait to celebrate again with our eighth Under the Pines Market on Saturday, January 11, 2025.”
