Rural Aid celebrated National Agriculture Day on Friday 21 November, as a way to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of the nation’s farmers.
From the grain belts to the cattle country, these hardworking individuals are the backbone of Australia, producing the food and fibre that sustains families across the country and around the world.
In this spirit, the organisation called on all Australians to ‘Buy a Bale or Fill a Tank’ on National Agriculture Day, to help deliver essential support to the families who put food on our tables.
According to Rural Aid chief executive officer John Warlters, farmers face a myriad of challenges, including drought, floods, fires and the everyday pressures of life on the land.
“Every day we see the heart, determination, and resilience of those who work the land,” he said.
“National Agriculture Day is a chance to recognise their incredible contribution to the country and to remind Australians that standing with farmers is vital to sustaining our communities and economy.”
In 2024-25, the sector is set to be valued at a record $101.6 billion, generating 10.8 per cent of goods and services exports and employing over 315,000 people.
Rural Aid supports these farming communities, providing practical assistance such as hay and water deliveries, financial aid, volunteer programs and counselling services.
“Farmers show up for us rain, hail or shine,” Mr Warlters said.
“At Rural Aid, we are proud to stand beside them and help shoulder the burden when life on the land becomes tough.”
