Lock’s senior residents learned more about the Lock Community Library and the Lock Pharmacy when they visited both in March.
Get Up and Goers volunteer organiser Anne Siviour said it was an interesting day with the library showing members many things, including books written by former students.
There was also interest in the state ‘one card’ lending system, which allowed users to borrow from other libraries.
Librarian Jane Taylor explained the various apps which could be used for borrowing, internet use, printing and how the library was set out.
“We are definitely fortunate to have the facility that we do,” Anne said.
“Following a cuppa and morning tea, including browsing the Outback magazine that Thomas and Elizabeth Edmonds featured in – from our gathering in February – we ventured down to the pharmacy.”
Anne said pharmacist Andrew McLeod spoke with passion about the pharmacy that he has created in Lock, in conjunction with the Elliston pharmacy.
He explained treatment rooms and various services offered.
“He also explained Webster packs and how the various scheduled drugs must be kept – with schedule eight [medications] in a bolted safe.”
Small gifts of appreciation were given to each speaker for their generosity of time and answering questions on their areas of expertise.
The next Lock Get Up and Goers will be on Tuesday, April 1 when the group visit Lock Area School, with another gathering on Monday, April 7 to make hot cross buns once again.
