A group of young Streaky Bay residents did their part to help clean up their community earlier this month.
Clean Up Australia Day is a great way to inspire children to learn about the impact of rubbish on their local environment while playing an active role as a citizen in their community.
The group from Streaky Bay Children’s Centre walked through the community to the jetty beach and collected glass, cans and paper.
The children noticed it was relatively clean on the day, so there was not a lot of rubbish.
“People must be looking after the world,” one child noticed.
The kindergarten encourages children to think about waste and its impact on the natural world.
It has been observing the local environment and what waste is around and at kindy.
Children have been exploring different types of waste and the importance of sorting it correctly.
The kindergarten is connecting children to nature through sensory and play-based learning to inspire positive environmental change.
This is part of sustainability which is an ongoing piece of the curriculum.
Thanks go to the many parents who walked to the beach with the group – parent participation makes excursions possible.
