Kimba will hold two International Women’s Day events again this year – the traditional breakfast and another event on the eve – both included in the $35 ticket cost.
Eyre Business is hosting both functions, with the breakfast at 6.45am on Friday, March 7 at the premises at 38 High Street, Kimba.
That will include the 7am start of the livestream of the Adelaide International Women’s Day breakfast, featuring guest speaker Rachel Perkins.
A proud Arrernte and Kalkadoon woman with Irish and German settler heritage, Rachel is one of Australia’s most significant storytellers.
As a film producer and director for the past 30 years she has created acclaimed works such as The Australian Wars, Total Control, Redfern Now, Bran Nue Dae and First Australians.
Eyre Business director Kerri Cliff said the two-day celebration included the evening of conversation on Thursday, March 6 event at Kimba Gateway Hotel.
“Join us for an evening of wonderful conversations and inspiration with guest speakers Shane Rowe from Almerta Station and local Cecilia Woolford,” Kerri said.
Shane will speak on the challenges of her life with her husband Paddy and their family, on the remote Flinders Ranges’ station, while Cecilia will talk on her experiences with Sailing Madagascor.
Almerta Station is a multi-generational grazing property which is celebrating 15 years as a tourism operator.
To do this it created individual campsites across the station and renovated the shearing quarters and original cottage.
Hender’s House offers off-grid luxury while providing guests with an authentic outback experience.
Shane is the Station Stays SA chairperson, on the Flinders Ranges and Outback Tourism Board, and passionate about agritourism, community advocacy and supporting regional businesses.
Kerri said Cecilia would talk about her experiences on board a traditionally-built Madagascan schooner.
“From competing in six Sydney-Hobart’s, Kimba’s Cecilia Woolford has always had a passion for sailing,” Kerri said.
“It was a long-held dream to create a research project that came true last year, as an exciting adventure.”
Cecilia and 2023 Kimba Art Prize photography winner Tom Polacheck sailed on the ship through the Mozambique Channel for four weeks.
Along the way they researched “the traditional sailing (fishing) fleet sustainability and the cultural anthropology of the region”.
“Come and hear about this amazing adventure and see some of the video footage taken on the voyage,” Kerri said.
“You can also follow the research mission on Facebook The Traditional Sailing Fleet of Madagascar.”
Tickets can be bought from Eyre Business or via the link on its Facebook page.
