The grain industry, producers and community are encouraged to put forward a deserving person for the inaugural South Australian Grain Industry Awards, with nominations open.
An initiative of Grain Producers SA (GPSA), the South Australian Grain Industry Awards is an opportunity to showcase the outstanding achievements of the sector.
GPSA chief executive officer Brad Perry said the South Australian grain industry, which contributed billions to the state’s economy annually and supported tens of thousands of jobs, would have a platform through the awards to recognise and celebrate those who exemplified excellence, innovation and leadership.
“These awards will celebrate the outstanding achievements of individuals and organisations within the South Australian grain industry, across six award categories, as well as induct the first ever members into the South Australian Grain Industry Hall of Fame,” he said.
“The inaugural South Australian Grain Industry Awards will allow us to celebrate the incredible dedication, innovation, and success of the people who drive our industry forward.
“Whether it’s in sustainability, innovation, or leadership, this is an opportunity to shine a light on the exceptional individuals and businesses that are leading the way.”
The awards feature the following categories: Grain Producer of the Year, Young Grain Producer of the Year, Innovation Award, Sustainability Award, Women in Grain Award and Industry Impact Award.
Winners of the Grain Producer and Young Grain Producer of the Year will each win $4000, the Sustainability Award winner will receive a scholarship valued at $7000 and each of the other award category winners will take home $3000.
In addition, the hall of fame will recognise individuals, living or posthumous, who have made outstanding and long-lasting contributions to the South Australian grain industry.
Mr Perry encouraged people involved in the grain industry – whether as a producer, researcher or advocate – to consider nominating themselves or someone else.
“This is our chance to celebrate the future of South Australia’s grains industry and the people making a lasting difference.”
Nominations will close on December 9.
Finalists will be announced on December 16, with winners to be revealed at the gala dinner at Adelaide Oval on February 4, 2025 – between the two-day Grains Research and Development Corporation Adelaide updates.
