Koppio couple Mark and Karen Dennis won the most successful lambs’ wool exhibitor at this year’s Royal Adelaide Show.
The only two Romney wool lambswool fleeces which they exhibited won second and third place.
In addition, they won three firsts, a second, third and fourth place for their Kurrabi Park stud’s Merino lambswool.
They did not exhibit sheep this year, with Karen being asked to judge British breed sheep classes – Romney, Hampshire Down and Shropshire.
Although Karen is an experienced judge, having previously judged both cattle and junior cattle judging, she said there was more stress judging than exhibiting live animals.
Karen honed up on the exact standards for each breed – with this year being the first in many that Shropshire had been shown at the show.
“I just wanted to make sure. I much prefer getting sheep ready (for show),” she said.
Although she had seen a few Shropshire in the past, Karen said there were not many around and only one was entered.
“That would be the first Shropshire that has been in Adelaide for a long time and he was a very good example of the breed.”
