Norwood Football Club will return to its regional zone of Eyre Peninsula this Saturday, April 20 for the third annual Teakle Cup SANFL match against West Adelaide at Port Lincoln’s Centenary Oval.
Norwood talent manager Craig Roberts travelled over to Eyre Peninsula earlier this week in preparation for the match.
“The Teakle Cup is always a great event for our club,” he said.
“This week has been fun so far – we have been parading our mascot ‘Rusty Redleg’ around the Eyre Peninsula to promote the game and the hotspots of the region.
“We put a lot of effort into our regional zone of the Eyre Peninsula, with ongoing clinics, academies and programs taking place throughout the year.”
Mr Roberts said the region was a great breeding ground for the club, with about 10 senior men’s players being from Eyre Peninsula.
“Our captain, Jacob Kennerley, is from Cummins, while Elliston boy Jacob Newton has just been selected in the SA U18 State Squad for the upcoming National Championships.”
In the lead-up to the match, Norwood Football Club has organised exhibition matches at Centenary Oval on Saturday, and Poole Oval on Friday night to showcase local junior EP footballers, as well as a VIP welcome evening at Peter Teakle Wines on Friday, April 19, and a Match Day Marquee with local produce and wines.
