Communities encouraged to support local shows

All community members are encouraged to get involved with their local shows this year.

Eyre Peninsula Shows’ Association life member Peter Hughes, with incoming president Tamy Pond, urged everyone to enter as many classes as possible at their local show in 2024.

They also issued a reminder that all Eyre Peninsula shows are run by volunteers and the committees were always looking for new members and volunteers to help out – both on show day and in the weeks leading up.

The call came when Eyre Peninsula Shows’ Association held its annual general meeting in Cleve in March.

The association consists of Wudinna, Whyalla, Yallunda Flat, Cleve, Cummins and Port Lincoln annual show societies.

All of the Eyre Peninsula shows now have websites or social media pages where interested people can find out more about their local shows.

Each of the shows are already in the planning stages for this year’s shows, with their dates as follows: Port Lincoln (August 11), Whyalla (August 18-19), Wudinna (September 15), Kimba (September 22), Yallunda Flat (October 7), Cummins (October 12) and Cleve (October 19).

The Royal Adelaide Show will be held from August 31 to September 8, with the SA Country Shows’ symposium to be held at the Adelaide grounds on Friday, July 12.

Taking on the role of association secretary is Stacey Leech, from Yallunda Flat Show Society.

In 2023 the association’s Royal Medallion was for the horses in action section and won by Jessica Crosby of Cummins.

Kimba’s 2023 Young Rural Ambassador Lily Venning will represent the zone in the state judging this year.

This year the Royal Medallion will be for the most points gained in the fruit and vegetable sections at the various Eyre Peninsula shows.
